Welcome to Guide

Guide helps people with cognitive impairment perform daily activities by providing contextually helpful prompts.

People with cognitive impairments (e.g., due to dementia or brain injury) often require help to perform activities of daily living, such as dressing, laundry and food preparation.

In many cases people with cognitive impairment can physically perform these activities, but they remain unable due to problems with memory, attention, and problem solving.

Guide compensates for these cognitive deficits. The program guides users through daily activities with verbal prompts. Users can respond verbally, and the system will help users solve task related problems.

Motivation and Aims

All across the world humans provide cognitive support for one another. We remind each other, provide advice, help each other solve problems and keep each other 'on task'.

When a loved one has a cognitive impairment, the family and friends step in to provide cognitive support. The problem is that this extra support can be seen as nagging, thus undermining the basis of the relationship.

Our aim is to simulate the best verbal support that caregivers provide, so that caregivers can avoid 'nagging' and focus on the care relationship.
